Welcome to this new blog all about Greenhouses and Garden Art
from Mount Shasta General Store.
Gardening
I thought I would share some of my gardening thoughts starting this great new
year. Here in Mount Shasta, California we are getting a lot of snow, and as I write
this note the forecast is for more snow for the following week. So, for many of
us it is the time to dream of the coming spring and gardens. Curl up with your
garden magazines and seed catalogs and plan your garden for the coming
growing season. It's fun to dream about that annual you've always wanted to try
or propagating a shrub or perennial that you especially like and being able to
place it in different spots in your garden.
Greenhouse
Starting seeds and propagation are much easier with a greenhouse.
Greenhouses give you a head start for those plants you want to try. Depending
on the greenhouse you can start vegetables and flowers or shrub seeds as
much as 2-3 months before you put the plant in your garden, and with some
greenhouses you can grow the vegetables to harvest without transplanting to
the garden. Propagating time is faster in a greenhouse. You won't want to take
your cutting until there is active growth in the spring, but the warmth and
humidity in the greenhouse creates an environment that encourages your
cutting to root more quickly.
Garden Art
Browse on line for unique items and plants that will make your garden more
interesting. Keep in mind any garden art you might want to include to enhance
your favorite spot or your favorite view like wind sculptures, fountain, bird baths
or statues. The garden ornaments can be whimsical or classic or just have a
special meaning to you. A large bronze snail is much more pleasing than the
real kind.
We'd love to hear from you with questions or comments. I'd actually like to get a
gardening forum started, so we'd like to post your comments and questions.
If I don't know the answers to your questions maybe someone out there will and
be happy to share their information.
Best Wishes,
Jenny
