An Aeolian harp is a wind harp, a harp that is played only by the wind, not by the hand of man. A regular harp or any other stringed instrument will make a sound in the breeze if properly positioned. As the wind moves through the strings, it causes the strings to vibrate, which makes the sound. At a certain point, the strings also start to work harmonically on each other. The sounds produced are much subtler than a wind chime, and are often referred to as enchanting, ethereal, and almost haunting. Some say the best time of day to hear these harps is after dark, when background noises are at a minimum. They seem to work best in an 8-12 mph (gentle breeze). |

| Stainless Steel Cones are standard and are powder coated black. Copper Cones are optional, they are not sealed and will patina over time. The Wind Harps are 45" tall X 13" in diameter The black frame is standard, contact us if you are interested in the blue frame. |
| Harp Construction and Maintenence Our harp frames are made from wrought iron, except Sunrise, which is stainless steel. The frame is zinc primed, then powder coated for a finish that will last for years outside. Tensioning hardware is solid brass so it will not rust. Megaphone speaker cones are stainless steel, with solid cooper as an option. The copper cone will patina(turn blue/green over several years, like a cooper roof). The strings are heavy nylon music string, which should last 3-4 years. Strings may need tightened several times a year. Strings are tightened with std. 7/16” wrenches. Titanium strings are available and are recommended. They are longer lasting and require less maintenance. Colored strings will fade over several years due to UV light of the sun. These harps are designed to keep maintenance to a minimum. Replacement strings sold upon request. Maintenance and mounting instructions included with each unit. |

| Harp Placement and Installation Harps can be placed in a variety of locations. Placement in an open, breezy area is critical for sound production. Harps can be mounted as shown or upside down if desired. Typical placements are deck railings, a post or other structure in a garden or patio, on a porch railing or up under the eaves, boat docks or any other outdoors structure. Harps must be fastened firmly for proper operation; they cannot swing in the breeze. Fasten with ¼” bolts, nut & washers or lag screws with washers. |
